Think Festival for Better Conferences

26 October 2007

FuturestockWant to make your next conference more engaging? One answer lies in borrowing from the world of festivals. This is what Eudemonic did when asked by ad agency BBH to shake up a traditional event format. The challenge: bring together six offices from around the globe, then promote a sense of future-thinking, empowerment and togetherness in an unforgettable manner.

Eudemonic use creative participation and 'play' to build better events and communication. For BBH, the team developed concepts and consulted on a programme that would really engage them with a festival style (with THA managing logistics and operations).

The headline festival concept was 'Futurestock'. This incorporated a number of interactive experiences that explored and formed a vision of the company's future.

Wish WallMost importantly, the event was managed around a central creative theme - Wish Storm - a digital installation representing the many futures of the people of BBH. Before Futurestock, all BBH staff cast their wishes into a virtual wishing well. At the event, they then saw their wishes come to life in front of them in a specially-commissioned installation. Played out throughout the conference, Wish Storm built into a climactic explosion that led into a performance by Blondie. The theme of wishes was later used and linked to real outcomes taken on by the organisation and their staff.

"People have described the event as the best weekend of their lives bar none": praise for Futurestock from Nigel Bogel, CEO of BBH. Why did Futurestock work? Festivals bring people together, make you feel deeply involved, and offer the freedom to choose an individual path out of the programme.

Eudemonic is well placed to develop creative strands that support conferences and live communications. The team have worked magic across cultural change events, professional learning and development, and big bashes that require a dazzling, interactive centrepiece. Eudemonic have pioneered a set of creative practices that can be integrated into events and communications programmes. To find out more, visit Click Here or email info@eudemonic.co.uk.
