Greetings LondonMICE readers and members and welcome to 2008 and the mad bad world of Dr.M....again!
Over the festive season it seems that the 3 Stooges (Stooges?!?) - Moira, Jerry and Hugh - planned some “full-on” questions for me, so being the open-minded kinda guy that I am, I thought “why not?” and the below delights are my answers to their 9 leading questions!!! And question 10 eh? Well, you know me well enough by now...Buddha always has the last word!
Q1 from Hugh: Are you really a Dr?
Dr. M: Yes, yes yes, I know I’m not really a Dr, but I have followed in my late father’s noble profession of being a purveyor of good health too all those I encounter, even if it has a slightly manic off-the-wall angle with wild, crazy events! Also, the world needs more Dr’s to look after the ailing situations we all end up in and Dr.M is a true superhero when it comes to that part!
Q2 from Jerry: What’s the best thing about being Dr M?
Dr M: The fact that its a totally unique, one-off role... self-created, self absorbing and totally self-destructive at times! God, I must be mad!! In fact, everybody knows I am mad so that’s what makes it easier. I just walk in and do it and everyone says, oh dear, here comes Dr.M!
Q3 from Moira: Is there a Mrs M?
Dr. M: Well, there was a real Nurse M, my ex-wife Lisa, and now there’s a new Nurse M (2), and that’s the lovely Karen, but of course when I’m off duty I’m not supposed to be Dr.M....just Vlad, or Carlos, or ???? The world has enough beautiful women to keep me happy, thanks guys and hey, remember, there is only one Dr...
Q4 from Jerry: Where did your catchphrase “expect the unexpected” come from?
Dr M: Truthfully, I just woke up one morning around 9 years ago or so, and changed it from “with a view to a more colourful event” to “expect the unexpected” and guess what...its a phrase everybody uses now and has been stolen from me many many a time...hey ho, does that make me sad, mad or famous??! Its a cute lick and its a real eye-opener to clients when they see it unfold on them in real life event situations for the first time, usually an infamous Masquerade hijack scene!!
Q5 from Hugh: How did you get into the events business?
Dr. M: That’s a book in itself, with a single endless chapter! But ever since I was knee high, I had a passion and skill for organising things. Its become a job now, though once it was a hobby! Or should I say that maybe my job and hobby meet somewhere in my subconscious and the result is a form of personal therapy in the name of Ade! It was about being bored of doing the same things every day, uncreative, for somebody else, without recognition or reward...
Q6 from Jerry: How would you describe the type of events you generally produce?
Dr. M: Crazy, mad, to the limit, performance-art and very very unique! You never get the same thing twice and since the LM team has been involved in a good few by now I’ll let Jerry add a footnote here about how he describes my events! Over to you J... (Yes, I can vouch for the good Dr. His events are always excitingly creative - always managing to give me the tingles).
Q7 from Moira: What is the most glamorous event you’ve ever produced and why?
Dr. M: Its not about glam, but its is about complexity of logistics, creative direction and mental agility and stunning entertainment, so I would have to say, our regular annual Halloween party for JR and his family always takes 1st place in my heart. For him, we create as true masterpiece and its a total ensemble effort too. I merely act as catalyst and light the dynamite stick and overdose everyone on a lethal cocktail of adrenaline!! And he lights the fuse!
Q8 from Hugh: What’s your favorite event out of the events you’ve produced and why?
Dr. M: Ditto! But the Pirate party and Swashbuckling Adventures of Captain Masquerade in 2007 beat even my all-time favourite until then of the Zombies from ZMB back in 2006. This year, in 2008, who knows eh? Only time and JR will tell, so watch this space! Whatever happens, 31/10/08 marks the spot!
Q9 from Moira: You often seem to play many different characters in your events; who is your favorite and why?
Dr. M: Well Dr.M is the philosophical Godfather of the role-play, and then Vlad is Russian a super-smoothe bad ass anti-hero, and Carlos is a South-American babe-magnet Drug Dealer and are others too, but hey, Vlad is my favourite as he has the car, the girls, the gadgets and the balls to do what he wants, when he wants and get away with it. Beware Vlad...he’s a mean man but he has the magic and Midas touch too.
Mysterious Question 10
So, with that in mind, what about question 10 eh? The question that does not exist, but that begs the answer “why Buddha?”
Well, Buddha sees and hears all and notes the crystallization of everything we aim for and achieve and even overdo! So here we go, for today, as I write this for you at LondonMICE, Buddha says:
“What we are today comes from our thoughts of yesterday, and present thoughts build our life of tomorrow: our life is the creation of our mind..."
Enjoy and be good, be wise and be aware!
God Bless!
