Dr. M Says...CaPiche

3 December 2007

OK LondonMICE readers, welcome to my last column of 2007, the end of the year “reflection” by Dr. M for a year of fun, colour and antics and of course, a cornucopia year where we always had to “Expect the unexpected!” ...anytime, anyplace and anywhere, just like Dr. M’s favourite Martini Cocktail! And since its my end of year reflection, what better way to end the event calender than with a resume of the highlights of my events and LM columns, together with some funky pictures to brighten it all up with eh? Are you ready to challenge convention again with Dr.M? Ready....Steady....Go Go Go!

It started like this...my February 2-007 column...

Energy, energy, energy!
...The start of a new year always brings lots of energy, firm resolution and a kind of military plan to what the year ahead has in store for you now ahead. Discipline is the keyword here. And precision. We all have valuable assets to offer in this crazy busy world, but only if we are firing on all cylinders!  What has your business got lined up for you in the events and MICE world? And is there something exciting you will be doing that you would like to share with us? Latch on to my new phrase: PNM`Precision Network Marketing. And in 2007, why not start practicing it now?

Busy bee
In the UK in Jan the Dr. was busy! In particular, the Dr. presided over a big client party on 20th January, with a James Bond 007 theme, at the fabulous and very newly refurbished Millennium Copthorne Hotel in London SW7. With a sub-theme of "Expect the Unexpected", the event featured special guest appearances from Austin Powers, super spy, Miss Moneypenny and "Q" to name but a few of the Masquerade entertainers...

Next, in April 2007, I went spring high & philosophical...

Get your note pads out
...I end with my classic quote from Buddha, the one that makes the most sense to me at this time of the year when we see Spring high and Winter disappear and Summer being beckoned on slowly but surely:
"Secluded meditation guards him who meditates, lengthens his life, gives him strength and shuts out faults."

Apt words, but remember please dear readers, don¹t stay too SECLUDED from us at LondonMICE and please ensure you come to all our forthcoming events, seminars and networking breakfasts and cocktail parties.  Sorry I was absent from the one at Roast, but the Dr. was indeed unwell and his own self-diagnosed patient!! Worn out, run down and flued up to the hilt from sheer plain overwork and somewhat vampire-ish after Friday 13th!

But hey, I¹m better now and back on the block and fit as a fiddle so panic not!

Saying it again (and again)
Like I said before, Spring is definitely here, nature calls, the birds twitter sweetly and the shrubs and plants and flowers are coming to life and exploding into colour as we talk and before our very eyes. Wow, is such a magical site`just like the magic of the LondonMICE network, growing slowly and blooming in colour every day.

Long may it continue...

Grrrreat!
LondonMICE had a great time in May at the Times Crème Show at Olympia and I made it to the 2nd day to help add some ³maverick² madness to the exhibition stand proceedings. Of course I drunk some nice champagne as well!
Nurse Moira and I met many of you, and I was especially pleased to bump into my dear PA friends Terry and Michelle who I have not seen for ages.  We had pizza together and chatted about life, events and parties. So, with a good party in mind and with Xmas coming up in the not too distant future, keep smiling and be happy...

Summer past, Dr M. holidayed, and soon it was time to start getting ready for JR...Via the Hard Rock Cafe ofcourse...

No work and all play!

Bring the toys out - all of them
So, on with the NO work and ALL play in that order too.`and talking of work, welcome aboard at LondonMICE the lovely Natasha Y from Russia who many of you met at the Hard Rock Cafe event in September. No doubts comrades Jerry and Hugh will be getting used to the Caviar, Vodka and Blinis in the office with Moira, and maybe even mastering a few choice phrases in Natasha's native tongue!!

I think Dr. Jerry and Nurse Moira have a few things to say about my mad seminar at the Hard Rock and the fabulous turn-out and the special Celebrity Rocker musical guest and group mentor, Peter Straker. Yes, it was a wild, nutty hour, thanks again to some splendid work from Peter George as well as some inspired ideas and input from Ray Jones, Zena O'Connor, Trevor from PW and the delectable Donna Comfort and Lesley Henderson who gave me some Big Bang Carbon theories of life, to boot!

Danger Will Robinson!!
We all had to beware of the Army of the Undead this 31st October and the "Witching Hour" when no one was safe from the evil of the Halloween Zombie, Ghoul and Ghost! Dr.M prepared for two mad events this ghoulish season, and yes, ha ha ha, we know what that means eh? Trouble and fun and madness came to North London at Halloween.  The Little Black Pearl set sail, for an enchanted Island and some swashbuckling fun!

So we did it at JR's for Halloween itself, with the full LondonMICE team in tow...do you remember...

...The Mermaids of Seduction and Mistress Moira...and Natasha too!

What lurks there...
In its Underwater Labyrinth there were 2 Mermaids, and a baby Mermaid, one of the East and one of the West. They were so beautiful and elegant but were also very untouchable. If you touched them you would be turned to stone! The Mermaids tried to distract everyone but luckily the guests all escaped still in human form, which was just as well, as they and then came face to face with the Sea Witch. She lived on the other side of the labyrinth, in a giant sea cove by a giant sea stone... She was pleased to see them, but only because she loved chocolate, which traded for further information on how to find and destroy Black Pete, the evil sea devil who had taken Captain Masquerade's ship hostage and turned all his crew into Zombie pirates.

...The Putrid Smell of Pumpkins and Hugh as a giant scary root monster!

The quest continued
To prepare for battle with Black Pete, they needed to find magic sea swords that Black Pete had buried in the Putrid Pumpkin Patch. These swords were the only thing that could dislodge the Zombified Starfish that had attached themselves on to the backs of the Zombie Pirates, and free them finally. The thrills were mounting, as was the intrigue and fantasy of the plot, all dreamt up by JR himself and co-scripted with Dr.M a few weeks before the event.

Continued the quest
The guests went in search of the swords, finding them in the pumpkin patch with several pumpkins buried above ground. When they approached them, a couple of pumpkins came alive and tried to scare them off, but were thwarted by the pirate rings Captain Masquerade had given to protected the guests. Don't forget, when they pointed the rings and said the words "Plunder me Thunder!", they retreated. Wow...a powerful thing indeed!!

...And finally, yes, Black Pete - War Lord or Wimp? No way, its was our very own Jerry!

Victory
They held the pumpkin guards off long enough to dig up the Sea Fish Swords so they could carry on....and finally come face to face with the Zombie Pirates who had taken back the "SS Masquerade" and were sworn to defend it along with the lost zombie treasure to the death. So captain Masquerade, now led by the 3 mini pirates, re-energised by the thought that they could finally beat the evil sea devil, Black Pete, and as Jerry playes him, let him have those famous repeated last words from my last month's column:

"I've always been a fan of Halloween, so it was great being able to play Black Pete - King of the zombie pirates! I got to have my face transformed into a half puffer fish, half human monstrosity. Plus, I got to sit on my own thrown and command a hoard of monsters. And, I also had the privileged honor of being plastic-sword-whacked by JR¹s guests and friends"  "and boy did they whack him" quipped our A-lister in his subsequent Saturday radio show. "Yes, it was great fun and I¹d definitely do it again, although next time I may opt to wear some kind of plastic-sword-whack proof material on my soft areas." - Jerry Burke AKA Black Pete

Jerry then plays "Rocky" in Rocky Horror, oh yes, just him and his posing trunks! Read about it on the current LondonMICE Website, and just imagine the sight of that rippling black toned and amazing torso!!

*** The finalists: vote for your hunk of the year ***

 Magic everywhere
What a magic year 2007 was!! Even if the highlight of re-incarnation and macabre scariness was just a matter plain black and white as Dr.M became the deadly and even more treacherous PENGUIN when he took over Moira and Bob's party pad in April, Whoa, Whoa, Whoa..

So, my dear readers, there you have it! A recap of the year in words, pictures and infamous Dr.M style...with glitz, glam, and unadultarated action too!!

  1. Let the 2008 Calender and Masquerade Events game begin...
  2. Bring on the LondonMICE New Year Antics...
  3. God Bless Moira, Jerry and Hugh and the SS Network, and all who sail in her!

Be Good, Be Wise and Be Aware...And not only be prepared to “Expect the Unexpected“ still...but, remember, in 2008 especially...at Masquerade, “The Party’s Never Over!”

HAPPY XMAS AND HAVE A WONDERFUL NEW YEAR TOO...

Dr. M

Dedicated to the memory of the one and only Dr. and my dear late father, Aaron Silas, 26/4/1935 – 1/3/2007, whose life we remember as a great doctor, teacher, musician and philanthropist...and most of all, a superb and sadly missed father
