Do you want to know how to plan the perfect wedding day, then take a look below at the wedding planner guide.
“I am so excited the woman of my dreams has just proposed to me (well it is a leap year) and now we are going to get married” said Bob to his friends at the local rugby club. Could Bob be any happier? Well maybe he could if he had a wedding planner guide to help him make those numerous decisions that surround the planning of the perfect day.
There are a number of steps to take in wedding planning and here is a look at just a few of the key issues.
Venue Considerations
Deciding the number of people and visualing the wedding can be a great way of determining which venues can be approached and which can be eliminated as being unsuitable.
Checking the venue contract in detail is highly recommended. The contract will usually form a significant portion of the wedding costs. Anything you are unhappy with can be negotiated. Above all make sure you understand the total amount payable that you will be responsible for, as some people have found out (to their horror) that it is not just the deposit.
Also verify if there are any rooms in the venue that you have to vacate by a certain time. In some hotels the dance floor can be immediately below some bedrooms and hence you may need to stop the party early on allowing the other hotel guests to sleep.
Find out if the venue has suffered any thefts in the last few years – after all you wouldn’t want the prezzies or your car to go missing.
Does the venue insist that you have some Public Liability insurance in place? This condition is becoming more common. Historic houses, unique venues and some hotels may have this as part of their standard contract terms. Establish if you need this insurance as it would be embarrassing to be refused entry or have to find a policy at the last moment.
Suppliers – Exercise your people skills to meet your wishes
As with the venue make sure that you fully understand the contracts that you sign with the entertainment, photographer, florist, cake maker, transport and anyone else that will play a part in making your special day, special.
All too often we have come across the DJ that has ignored your play list and decided to blast his own music (as that is his preference).
Similarly be exacting with the number and style of photographs that you would like taken. We know of one instance where the photographer suffered from Parkinsons disease and the only way to take the photos was by using a tripod. Whilst this worked for some photos it was completely hopeless for the pictures of the little children.
Our advice is to have a look at the suppliers’ previous work and also obtain some feedback from their previous clients. It will either provide you with peace of mind or send you looking for an alternative. Above all, it is your day so be demanding.
Logistically speaking
Whilst a wedding can be a big event we find that it is best to break the project into a number of tasks and then tick them off as you go along. A simple spreadsheet is often one of the best tools to use. There are insurance policies to provide peace of mind and wedding planning guides to help.
Stay in control and do not become over whelmed by it all. At the end of the day there will always be something that didn’t turn out quite as expected but remember it is the first day of your married life and should be a fun one, so you can always call on your sense of humour if all else fails, after all we know Bob will.
Bob – please be the first to use our wedding planning guide and good luck!
